Library Cards

There are two ways to register for a Clay County Library card. In both cases, patrons will need to visit any one of the five Clay County Library branches in order to receive their card.

 

  1. In Person
    • Please visit any branch or the Headquarters Library and go to the Circulation Desk
    • Inform staff that you wish to register for a Library Card
    • Fill out a registration form, including your signature
    • Show staff current ID, such as a Driver’s license, that shows proof of address in Clay County
    • Staff will enter information into the computer system, and ask you to set up a 4 digit pin number
    • Staff will issue you your new card, as well as a key tag card with the same number on it
    • Staff will verify your phone number and e-mail address, so that you can receive automated notifications of Holds and overdue materials
    • New patrons may check out 5 items on their first visit, and 25 at each subsequent visit
    • Your new card is valid at any branch of the Clay County Library System
  2. Pre-register online at http://insignia.claycountygov.com/Library/Register
    • If you do not currently have a library card with Clay County, you may pre-register using this online form
    • Fill in your name and address and the other information listed
    • Your new temporary registration will allow you immediate access to our website and catalog, as well as to Axis360, our E-Book service
    • You must visit any one of our 5 locations within 7 days of this pre-registration in order to confirm registration and to receive your physical library card
    • Pre-registered accounts that are not confirmed within 7 days are deleted

Clay County residents and property owners receive free library services at all  Clay County (5) branch library locations. Residents of Reciprocal Borrowing counties may also receive a free Clay County library card entitling them to limited services. For all others the Non-Resident Fee is $40.00 a year.

Library cards may be obtained with a picture ID and upon verification of street address.

• After applying online, please follow up with a visit to your local branch library within 7 days with a picture ID and document showing your street address to complete the registration process.

Your Clay County library card is required at the time of check out and for access to various services.        

Renewing your library card requires that your account be clear of all fines/fees.      


Replacement:  Fee for a lost card is $1.00.
Non-Resident Fee:  $40.00 per year.
Temporary Cards for Non-Residents: $15 for 3 months, $30 for 6 months

IMPORTANT

Keep all your contact information current as you will receive E-mail notification of holds and overdues.
 
Children under the age of 18
Parents or guardians are responsible for their child's use of library materials, services, and facilities including their fines or fees. A parent's signature is required for a child under the age of 14 to get a library card. No child under the age of 9 may be left without a parent/guardian in the library. Children under the age of 5 must always be accompanied by an adult.

Children’s Safe Internet Use

The library advises and encourages parents be present to monitor their child's Internet usage.

  First time library card users may check out 5 items. Afterwards that increases to 25 items which may include any or all of the following:

•  2  books per exact Dewey subject area
•  5  books per author
•  5  DVDs

Checked out Materials


Checked out materials may be returned to any Clay County Library.

Patrons in Good Standing:


Patrons are encouraged to keep their account in good standing. Accounts that fall behind will have their library card blocked.  

Blocking will occur if:
• 5 or more items are overdue one day or more
• $20.00 or more in fines and fees is owed
• Unpaid lost or damaged material is outstanding
• Library Code of Conduct is Violated

Payments:


Payment for fines and fees is accepted in cash, by check, credit or debit cards and cash only for computer printing.

Lost/Damaged Material:  


                                                       
Material lost or damaged beyond repair will result in a charge of the item replacement cost plus a $2.00 processing fee for each item. If staff repairs an item, a damage fee will be assessed.
