Providing free transportation to support independence

Limited transportation options can hinder some residents' access to employment, medical appointments, and overall quality of life. Clay County has introduced SHIFT - Supporting Hope and Independence with Free Transportation to address this issue. The program partners with local bike shops and nonprofits to provide free bicycles to people needing transportation. Each SHIFT bicycle has front and back lights, a tire pump, and a bike lock, plus a water bottle holder, luggage rack, and other gear depending on availability. If you or someone you know could benefit from this program, please connect them with our Community & Social Services department. If you want to donate a bicycle to SHIFT, you can also contact the Community & Social Services Department, or you can drop the bike off at your local Clay County Fire Station. To learn more about the SHIFT program please see the video below:

As part of the SHIFT program, we have installed bicycle repair stations strategically around Clay County. These are free-to-use, public-access bike repair stations that have all of the basic tools needed to make basic repairs and adjustments to a bicycle. Currently, we have installed repair stations at the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library, 2245 Aster Avenue, Middleburg and the Green Cove Springs Library, 403 Ferris Street, Green Cove Springs. More locations to come.

Transportation Vouchers

We have also partnered with the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) and Clay Community Transportation (CCT) to provide transportation vouchers to Clay residents to help them get where they need to go. These vouchers are basically bus tickets and can be used to access many different locations throughout the county, including the Community Services & Veterans Services Office, the Community Paramedicine Office, all County Libraries, and various locations in Orange Park, Middleburg, Green Cove Springs, Fleming Island, and Keystone Heights. CCT vouchers are only valid on the Clay County Flex Lines (Blue, Red, Green, and Magenta).

For more information about CCT bus vouchers, please reach out to the Community & Social Services Office.

CCT bus service is offered from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday – it is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. For any CCT bus questions please call 904-284-5977.
