  • How can I protect my home from flooding?

    While you can take many mitigation measures to lessen the effects of a flood on your home, the best one is to secure flood insurance. Depending on the flood hazard in your area, the characteristics of your property, and the zoning and building codes in your community. Some methods are fairly simple and inexpensive; others require a professional contractor. You can find more flood and insurance information at the Flood/FEMA webpage.


  • Are shelters pet friendly?

    We do have pet-friendly shelters in Clay County that may be opened during an event. When that time comes we will release the exact shelters and locations. Please keep in mind that only dogs, cats, rodents, rabbits, and fowl will be permitted. Pet vaccinations will be required if applicable.


  • How do I sign up for emergency alerts?

    Sign-up for Clay County specific emergency alerts to be sent to your mobile device or home phone.  These alerts include evacuation notices, flash flood warnings, tornado warnings, severe thunderstorm warnings, notices of missing persons, etc.

  • How do I sign up to receive emergency notifications and official updates?

    You can sign up to receive emergency notifications by visiting the ALERT Clay County webpage at https://www.claycountygov.com/community/emergency-management/disaster-preparedness/stay-informed and also by downloading the SaferWatch app at https://www.saferwatchapp.com. The SaferWatch will provide official updates as well as provide a method for users to report and document storm damage.

    When an evacuation is ordered by your local government, it is strongly encouraged for you to heed that warning. Our notifications will come out through Alert.ClayCountyGov.com or via our social media platforms- Facebook and X (formerly Twitter)
