All Clay County Fire Rescue fire stations are “Safe Stations for Children. “

Clay County Fire Rescue, in partnership with the Youth Crisis Center of Jacksonville and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, is participating in a program that provides runaways and children in crisis a safe and secure location to go for help any time of the day or night.

When a child seeks refuge at the fire station, firefighters will make them comfortable and immediately notify the Youth Crisis Center that they are safely in custody. Trained counselors will help decide the following steps to take. Transportation will be provided by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office if needed.

Nationwide these child safety programs have shown that children and adolescents will seek assistance if available in the community. This program encourages children NOT to run away. Still, if they do, Clay County’s Safe Stations for Children provide an opportunity to get off the streets and avoid being a potential target for violence or criminal activity.

Any family or child in crisis can call the Youth Crisis Center at (904) 725-6662 or toll-free at 877-720-0007 for resources and assistance 24 hours a day.
